A1’ movie review: Santhanam destroys every woke mind with a barrage of regressive tropes

A1 Movie Review | Santhanam | Accused No 1 Movie

Santhanam in ‘A1’

At 109 minutes, this chaotic movie is a cautious expression of problematic ideas, which is popularly known as harmless comedy.
This is a fascinating practice to study the concepts of an average Tamil film, because it clearly shows the problematic mentality of an average movie goer. In A1, the hero conspired to murder his girlfriend's father; The heroine forcibly kisses the hero without his consent, the hero tries to frighten the fiancée of his girlfriend with his private video - they all get along with hoots and whistles.

Debutant Director Johnson A1 offers a skewed and highly problematic worldview. It is equally attractive that the Tamil cinema is shamelessly milking the lower-caste-man-fall-in-love-high-caste-girl with a template, which has become its own sub-genre in the right way. Here, the roles are played by Divya (Tara Alisha Berry, whose eyeliner performs more than him) and Saravanan (Santhanam, who clearly, do not care about reviewing his earlier films).

Divyang, a high caste girl, makes an idol from her aunt Subalakshmi (Thalapati to Shobhana). Like his aunt, he wants to fall for a "masculine man", but also hopes he is a Brahmin. Sarwanan, with a Namashmir on his forehead, slowly enter the shot. Assuming that he is a Brahmin, Divya offers and Sarwanan rejects. He tries to convince him - for the first time a fresh gender role - to fall in love with him, and to do everything that is known for the heroes of Tamil cinema. Even she offers to take her as the husband of a household. Divya works in an IT firm, but her intelligence suggests otherwise. Believe me, it just gets better. When Sarwanan asks whether he is "Luci Ponnu" - the oldest trump in Tamil cinema - he kills him forcibly.
